The problem

In the property inspection game, you get paid per report. The trouble is, doing an inspection and then writing the report can take all day, seriously reducing the amount of money you can make.

As an LBP you're experienced at undertaking complex builds and running big jobs with big budgets, but... no one has taught you anything about sales and marketing let alone typing out reports - like we said, the business model is broken so someone had to fix it.

The solution

1. Easily producing three to four reports a day

To be successful in business you need to make money, but if you're only able to turn around a report a day then you're going to have to work pretty hard to make the business "work" for you and your family instead of sacrificing your life to "work for it".

Red LBP was born out of this frustration. Owner Dan Paltridge, like most builders in Christchurch, New Zealand was a qualified builder with 20 years' experience and had been working as a building consultant after the 2011 earthquakes. Knowing this work had an end date, Dan chose to stay in the consulting field and switched his attention to pre-purchase property inspections but found the going was pretty tough.

Victoria, Dan's wife and business partner who owned a Quantity Surveying business knew there had to be a better way so together they developed a reporting system that streamlined the whole process. You literally walk around a house with an iPad gathering all the information you need and by the time you finish the inspection the report is 90% complete bar a bit of editing that'll take you anything from 20 to 60 minutes with a bit of experience.
